A Dark Morning...

I woke up at 5 a.m. to say good-bye to the children before they left for school. It was horrible! Absolutely depressing!!! There were some who couldn't even say good-bye to me... they sort of avoided me until the last moment. I got to see them all loaded into the school bus and got my hug and kiss from everyone.

Piled into the school bus.

I spent my last three nights in Colombia, writing 23 cards in Spanish - one for each child. I didn't have any amazing Christmas gifts, but I decided to write each of them their own special message.

I did have some left over Mary Kay inventory for the women on staff at the Foundation and a special Spanish-English dictionary for Efrain. (This is why I'm laying Mary Kay bags under the tree.)

Thank God for a.... Schoolbus???

It´s the simple things in life we really take for granted. Now I was never blessed enough to ride each day to school on one of those rickety old schoolbuses, however, I did ride on them for every high school band contest or festival. I guess I can say that I have some experience.

Who would have guessed that one of the greatest blessing God could give to the Foundation was a schoolbus that could pick up the children right at the gate and take them to their school.

The bus is owned by the Christian school they attend, and now the children no longer have to ride the packed, public buses... which can be quite dangerous if you really think about it.

The bus arrives at 5:15am every morning and drops the children off at the door of the school. Unfortunately, Gabriela does still have to make the trip with them because they arrive at the school before the doors are even open! She waits with them until the school director arrives, and then she goes on her way. The kids return back to the Foundation in their safe new bus at 2pm.
